"Preferences" allows you to change the Dynodex settings described below. These settings are global to the Dynodex application (they carry over from document to document until you re-set them.)
The "Preferences" Dialog:
• Phone Dialing: This box must be checked to enable the “Dial” Command (Record Menu) in the Dynodex application and DA.
• Tone Dial/Pulse Dial: Select the option that conforms to your phone system.
• Use Which Port: Select the port through which Dynodex should dial: either the "Modem", the "Printer", or the "Speaker" port.
• Local Area Code: Type your local area code in the text box. Whenever Dynodex dials, it will know not to dial your local area code.
• Prefix: Type any universal prefix that Dynodex must dial for any phone number. (For example, many businesses require that the user dial a “9” to access to access outgoing or long-distance phone lines. Type “*70” to turn off call waiting.) Separate digits with spaces, commas, or hyphens.
• Long-Distance Prefix: Type any prefix that must be dialed to access long-distance lines.
• Long-Distance Suffix: Type any suffix that must be dialed after dialing a long-distance number.
• Auto Hang-Up After (available when dialing through modem or printer port): Lets you control when Dynodex should hang up dialing. (You can always hang up manually by pressing Cmd-Opt-H.)
• Location: Controls the way Dynodex formats addresses an dates to either US, International, or UK formatting.
• US Location: Addresses will be formatted as "City, ST Zip COUNTRY. If State is undefined, then the address is formatted as "Zip City, COUNTRY". Dates are formatted as mm/dd/yy.
• UK Location: The names of certain fields change: Zip>Pcode, St>Cty, Country>Cntry. Addresses will be formatted as "City, CTY Pcode COUNTRY. Dates are formatted as dd/mm/yy.
• International Location: Addresses will be formatted as "Zip City, COUNTRY. If State is defined, then the address is formatted as "City, ST Zip COUNTRY". Dates are formatted as dd/mm/yy.
• Startup File: Tells Dynodex to automatically open a specific address file when you start the Dynodex application. You can still open a different file at startup by just double-clicking on a different file in the Finder.
• Set Startup: Lets you select the startup Dynodex file.
• First Line Pref: Automatically sets the "First Line" data to either “Business” or “Name” for records in which both fields are defined.
• Auto Save: Enables the “Auto Save” function, which automatically saves the current document to disk at an interval from one to sixty minutes. To specify the interval, click on the up or down arrows or type the correct number of minutes in the text box. When enabled, "Auto Save" also performs a save after 30 seconds' pause during which no keyboard or mouse activity has occurred.
• Window Persistence: Tells Dynodex to position all Dynodex windows exactly as you last left them on your screen. This is particularly useful if you prefer your entry screen or list windows to open in a position different from the default. If you turn "Window Persistence" off, Dynodex will position all windows in the default position.
• Sort Before Closing: Tells Dynodex to display the Re-sort dialog before closing any file, in case you have added records and they haven't been sorted yet.
• Units: Specify "Inches" or "Centimeters" for unit of measurement. This becomes important if you are working with "Form Setup" and changing form or page margins.
